Aimee Smith

 Aimee joined AARC in August 2017. Aimee has an M.A. ​in teaching with a focus in upper elementary/middle school general education and music, as well as a post-graduate endorsement in special education. She is currently completing coursework towards a graduate certificate in applied behavior analysis.

Anne Freitag

Anne has worked at the SESA Library from 1991-2001, and again from 2003 to the present. Anne received her master's in librarianship and information management from the University of Denver, and also has degrees in computer information systems, English, history, and technology.

Brian Babcock

This is Brian’s second year at SESA. He earned his bachelor’s in sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and his master’s degree in special education at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

SESA Autism Specialist

John Barrowman

John has been working as a SESA specialist since 2015. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, and a minor in special education. He completed Project PASS (Preparing Autism Specialists for Schools) in 2010. In 2011, John completed his master's, as well as a licensure program for early childhood special education/early intervention.

Kendra Wolf

Kendra has worked as a SESA specialist since 2016. Kendra attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in child psychology in 2014, and later, her Master of Education in early childhood special education.

Lyon has worked as a SESA specialist since 2006. He holds national certifications in applied behavior analysis and school psychology, as well as a license to practice applied behavior analysis in the State of Alaska.

Nicole joined SESA August 2018 as an Educational Specialist. She has a B.S. in Business Administration, and an Alternative Teaching Certification in special education. She received her master's in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University. She is currently completing her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership.

Online Autism Conference and Renewal Credits:

Course Registration Information | Syllabus 

According to the State of Alaska Department of Education & Early Development:

"During the life of the certificate being renewed, applicants must complete six semester hours of renewal credit...The six renewal credits must be relate to or required for:

  • The certificated person’s employment at the time of renewal, if the employment requires a certificate;

  • The certificated person’s endorsements, or

  • A state-approved preparation program that will lead to an endorsement that the certificated person seeks to acquire.


At least three of the renewal credits must be upper division or graduate credit. The remaining three renewal credits may be upper division credit, lower division credit, continuing education units or non-academic credit. One renewal credit is equal to one semester hour, 1.5 quarter hours, or 15 hours of continuing education or non-academic training."

The Online Autism Conference is offering two options for renewal credits:​

Non-Academic Training


$79 payable to UAA

$50 payable to Teacher Certification


No pre-approval required

Complete extension activities & reflection

Complete pre-approval process through teacher certification

Once approved, prepay & submit a report to teacher certification

Request a certificate from the AARC prior to the conference, and attend all sessions.

If you are unsure about whether this conference will qualify as a renewal credit, contact the Alaska Teacher Certification Office at 907-465-2831.

If you are renewing an out-of-state certificate or professional license, please check with the corresponding agency to verify if credit will apply towards renewal.
